Heres something for you to look out for!
In this photo is a fungus called king alfreds cake, its a hard noggin that usually grows on dead ash trees.
This is also nicknamed as a coal fungus.

When picked and dried out, this makes for an amazing tinder. Give it a little spark from a ferro rod (pictured below)

It will produce an amazing ember that will get any fire started! (Parental supervision advised)
So your challenge is this!
If your out and about and find some of this bring it to a scouts evening and you will have the oppertunity of seeing it in action!
This is a classic bushcraft essential that has been used for hundreds of years!
